It's been a while, quite a while since I last posted anything! Winter seems to be such an un-inspiring time of the year for me as far as taking pictures go, but then there is days like this one when the beauty of the snow fall is so beautiful that you can not help it but to snap some shots! right? I guess that really is the only part of winter I love!

First Sunday of Advent

On the first Sunday of Advent, we read the beginning of the book of Isaiah, where the prophet speaks in the voice of God and calls the people of Israel to repentance, to prepare them for the coming of His Son. But the Old Testament people of Israel also represents the New Testament Church, so the call to repentance applies to us as well. Christ has already come, at the first Christmas, but He is coming again at the end of time, and we need to prepare our souls.

The gospel of Luke describes “the glory of the Lord” that shone around the shepherds when the angel announced the Savior’s birth (2:9). Luke also records Jesus’ promise that He will return “with power and great glory” (21:27). These two events frame the purpose for which the Son of God came into the world.

In Latin advent means “a coming.” The weeks before Christmas can be a wonderful season of repentance and expectation as we celebrate our Lord’s first advent in Bethlehem and anticipate His second advent when He returns in glory.

Christ has come! Christ is coming again!

First of all, my deepest apologies for my long silence! Life has been very hectic and very busy in our home and the last thing in my mind or to do list right now is blogging! I haven't have the time or the inspiration to shoot anything for the past two weeks so I will not be posting any thing her today, nor I will have a challenge going since I just don't have the time right now to dedicate to it the way it deserves it! Hopefully this will change soon, but for now, we will be taking a little break from blogging world! :(

Funny looking creatures!

I so LOVE the diversity and variety of wild life we have around here! It used to be VERY rare tough to see Moose in this area but in the last 5 or 6 years it has become a little more common, though really still rear enough. Hubby was out in the bush gathering our winter wood when he saw this pair of moose out in the field feeding in some alfalfa, so he immediately call me on his cell, he knew I would love to capture those two! So I quickly put on my jacket, gloves and tuque, grab my camera and 300mm zoom lens and run out the door! I was so lucky they were still hanging around pretty close to the road and was able to get a few shots before they got skittish and run away! They are such funny looking things and the sound they make it was almost like a cow! LOL!!!

This verse seem so fitting as fall comes closer and closer to and end and you can almost feel the falling snow and the winter coming just around the corner! It also makes me think in all of the goodness of course we have received from him this fall and for the wonderful and abundant harvest!

Around here we don't get to see much oranges and red in the fall, is mainly yellow, all kinds of yellows, light, dark, bright but mostly yellows so I am always happy for the very few trees that still let us also enjoy these beautiful colour hues of fall, red and orange!

I don't know about you, but around here we LOVE our pets! This past week I was trying to do some picture files cleaning and I run into this picture of our daughter with our wonderful girl "Maya". Maya has been with us for almost 6 years now and we love her to pieces! Every morning after hubby is done with his chores in the barn, he lets her out and she come by the house to say Good Morning and get a little treat! Huskies are special that way, it really is as if they would almost "speak"! Way in the back is sort of our other "pet" our horse Savannah, our other very special girl!

Anyway, this week challenge is a bit different. Your pictures (like mime) doesn't have to be from this past week, sometime this year will be fine, I just would like for you to share your favourite picture of what you LOVE!

This weekend up here in Canada we are celebrating THANKSGIVING. Our family is pretty small and most of them are outside our province so we don't really get together for this occasion, so it is always just us four and of course Grandpa! I guess like most families, we enjoyed the Turkey meal very much and just try and have a nice relaxing day, well, mostly afternoon for me anyway, since I spend all morning in the kitchen preparing the meal! LOL!!

This year I am particularly grateful to God for . . .

The wonderful and abundant harvest he provided us with! For the unbelievable weather that allow most farmers to harvest their fields with minimal loss of quality on the grains.
For a warm home and loving family.
For the chance my son had of spending three months in my native home (Colombia) with my family, for his graduation from grade 12 and the job he now has.
For God's provision and faithfulness every single day!
For health.
For our church family.
For taking care not only of us, but also of our families near and far.
For being able to capture the wonder and the beauty of HIS beautiful creation through my lens and being able to share with others.
For the many new friends I have made this year!

For all of this and so much more dear Lord, we give you THANKS!! To you, and ONLY you, be Glory, Honour and Praise!

Now that we have 101 followers I thought that really, REALLY, calls for a celebration, right?

As we drove by this field and saw this old rusted tractor sitting on the field as if waiting to be notice and probably even waiting to be photograph, this verse come to my mind right away, so today I am sharing it with you!

I am also sharing something else that someone shared with me once and happens to mention this verse as well.

It’s called “Seven Things That Can Be Done Only In This Life.”

1. Love and pray for your enemies (Matthew 5:44).

2. Walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).

3. Love God by enduring temptation (James 1:12).

4. Through love serve one another (Galatians 5:13).

5. Lay up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-20).

6. Share the gospel with the lost (Matthew 28:19-20).

7. Exercise your spiritual gifts (Romans 12:6-8).

Such good reminder of how God wants us to live and what He wants us to do.

Autumn Splendor!

Autumn is definitely one of my favourite seasons! The richness of the colours in the evenings specially, is just amazing! Now with all the harvest going on around and the dust just hanging in the air, it seems to light up the skies on fire every night! Quite a site to see! As I was driving home yesterday, I just HAD to stop and take a picture of this two little trees on the side of the road, I was so taking by their awesome colours! Soon their leafs will fall completely so I am glad I captured this moment before is only part of the past!

I didn't have much time or opportunity to snap away this week, but yesterday me and my daughter who is crazy horse lover, had the chance to go and see a new and good friend of ours compete of barrel racing! At some point in her life this was something that my daughter thought she would like to do, but later realize that wasn't as easy as she thought it would be. The way I see it this seems to be an sport that requires a lot of training, perseverance, courage and strength! Sort as our daily walk and work for God. We must be courageous, we must persevere, we must not give up in-spite of adversities and disappointments, we MUST run our race and like Paul be able to say someday, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith".

As followers of Jesus, let us strive to be finishers, persevering in our service for Jesus Christ.

It's Friday, Friday!!! What a busy, HOT, tiring and rewarding week it has been! God has blessed us with wonderful harvest weather, though a bit too HOT but not complaining here, way better than rain, right? He has also blessed us with a wonderful, abundant and bountiful harvest and we are so . . . thankful words simply can not express how grateful we are! I guess we had been so busy with it that I have forgotten completly about taking some photos of it, so last night I quickly hopped on the RTV with my daugther and took off to the field to take some shots as the sun was going down and just before hubby finished that field! Rigth on time! So this is definetely my favorite picture of the week. And another favourite for scripture Sunday, love the verse that goes with it!

Another week gone and worse, another month gone! Is it just me or time is going by faster than usual?? Summer will soon be gone and I have no idea where it went! I love the fall but then just the thought of winter coming right after that makes very, VERY sad! :( Well, I have been complaining A LOT about summer and no holidays whatsoever! but I can complain no more! Believe or not we were finally able to actually take a 3 day little holiday! Oh how we needed it! I was so happy we were able to travel to Alberta to visit my sister in-law and her husband and while we were day take an entire day to visit Banff and Lake Louise. It had been almost 20 years since we had been on those places and our daughter had never been there, so this was a real treat and a wonderful time to share as family! Unfortunately my oldest couldn't come along b/c of his job commitments.

So today, I would like to share with you all some of favourites pictures I took during this trip. A real celebration of God's wonderful, beautiful and amazing creation!

At the beginning of this week, we had the opportunity and the privilege to take a little and I mean little (3 days) holiday! 2 of those days were mainly driving but it is OK. The main day there we spent it visiting Banff and Lake Louise in the province of Alberta, here in Canada. This is such a beautiful part of our country! Very different that our prairies where everything is so flat (but pretty too! ;) That area is rich in mountains, forest, wild life and amazing beautiful greenish, blueish lakes and rivers, simply amazing in colour! We heard this is cause by something that comes in the water from the melting glaciers. Any ways, we had a great time and tried to really relax and just take the whole day in. Like this verse said, he really lead us besides quiet waters and restore our souls. What a wonderful and perfect way to experience God magnificent creation! Praise, Honour and Glory be only to him!

It's Friday, Friday!!

Yeah! It is finally Friday! Well . . . actually for me Friday is just like any other day of the week, since I am ALWAYS home, doing the same things, over and over, day after day! The only day for me that really is different than the rest is Sunday. Fridays though are one my favourites now, because there are so many photo challenges that allow us to share with the rest of the world that one picture we took during the week and become our favourite, so here is my favourite from this week. I love hummingbirds and await anxiously and ready every May for them to come and stay around for the summer. I only wish we would have different kinds, unfortunately we ONLY get Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that all! Oh well . . . better than nothing, right?

Project 64: Out of the Box - Raw Sienna

This is a pretty colour, but I think also a tricky one! I have always been fascinated by the cattail plant, specially because at least around here, it attracts a lot red and yellow wink birds and I love those as well. I thought this was a good match to this week's colour, specially when the sun is shinning on it like it did here. So what do you think?

I guess I was feeling like creating something vintagy (is that a word?) any way, you know what I mean, vintage like? This is another of the shoots I took at my favourite place in Saskatoon, The Atrium at the U of S. I tried a bunch of different textures from the talented Kim Klaassen and also used Rita's latest vintage frames. I have been wanting to participate on project 64 for a while but unfortunately life has been so buys for us than there haven't been really much time just to get out there and shoot for fun! plus the mosquitoes are so terrible this year, I don't there step outside of the house! Yesterday though I had a chance to just go out to one of my favourite places in the city and take quite a few shots which I will be saving and using next week too! That was so much fun, I miss those days! So here is my entry for this week.

Many of times, trusting God, letting go, isn't exactly easy, is it? but when we really learn to trust God, when we let him take control, is it amazing to see where he can take us! Like someone said . . . "Our God has not promised smooth sailing, just a safe landing". I find this to be so true!

For a while now we had been hearing a very pretty song from a bird in our yard but had no idea what it was! This week I manged to find out who was singing such a pretty song! It was this cute, little thing, a House Wren, somewhere I read a quote that said . . ." Small bird with a BIG song", which really is true! As I was thinking of a verse for this picture I found this one and really, REALLY liked it! We have had a tough week dealing with Dad being in the hospital and now home, trying to adapt to this new reality of him getting old and more and more dependent of us. We used to depend on him so much and I know this is just as hard for him as it for us. But the only thing that has helped us through if all of course if has been prayer and trust in God. He has certainly been our fortress and our refuge in times of trouble! Tomorrow we are celebrating "Singing Sunday" in our church, we do this every summer, so I will be singing to the Lord, to his strength and his love, in our time of troubles!

As I was surfing around, I found this neat link or Linkup I should say, called, "Where I Blog" and of course found it quite interesting to see where other blog as well. So here is a photo of the place where I blog and do all my computer related work, including my photography and church work. A couple of years ago, I decided to turn this bedroom into a study! It was suppose to be and it was for a while, my husband's study and then later on it also become my craft room. Somehow hubby didn't seems to use the room as much as he should have and in the mean time I got tired of having my "study" in the living room, so I decided to take over this room, make it MY study and fixed hubby his own space in our bedroom since that was the place where he preferred to be! Needless to say I LOVE my new space and spend A LOT of time in here, way more than hubby ever did! I love it that when I need my quiet time, I can just close the door and have as much privacy as I want! So, there you have it, now when you think of me, you know exactly what the my space looks like! I would love to see what the space where you blog looks like too, so go ahead, join us in this challenge! Don't you think is fun?

Little Somethings: photo challenge || Camera

How exciting! Found yet another new challenge! The Challenge this week: Cameras. I like it how she puts it: "Go out and get creative and then come back and link up!" Well, that is exactly what I tried to do! I found this old camera in a second hand store and then went to raking my brain thinking of some creative picture with it and this is what I come up with! It is amazing the things I do for photography sometimes, like standing on the field last night camera in hand while the mosquitoes drove me absolutely crazy! They are so . . . bad you have no idea! So I tell you, this was a real sacrifice! I like how it turned out though, so I hope you like too!

Well, we certainly got an easy colour this week, eh? I could think of a 100 things around here with this colour, by my daughter pointed the obvious to me! As I was trying to decide what to photograph, she said, "Mommy! The barn! What more red do you want?" Of course she was right! Here is this building starting at me every single day as I look out my kitchen and dinning room window, and never thought about it! LOL!!! I wanted something different though, not just the picture of the barn, I have tons of pictures of it, from different angles, with people, with animals, etc . . . but this picture is one of my favourites! It says barn, but it doesn't scream barn, if you know what I mean! Any way, hope you like as much as I do!

I LOVE this week's colour! Actually it was hard to decide what to post today when this shade of yellow seems to be everywhere, specially now when the canola fields are starting to bloom! But today I decided to go for a bird! I love cedar waxwings and they are some of the few birds that come summer after summer to our yard so I figure they needed to be future this week! Aren't they extremely pretty? I also love how the sun was shinning through the tree right then and carry that yellow into the leafs as well.

OK, now that the Lilacs are in bloom, couldn't pass the chance to future them here! I love to look at them, but the smell is too strong for me and specially for hubby to bring them in the house! To me, Lilacs bring sweet memories of Mom and how father used to bring a bunch of lilacs for Mom every summer, as soon as the bloomed.

Today I have been looking around for different and new challenges to participate in and so I happened to bump into "Weekend Texture Twist" so here I am giving it a try! I also noticed that the theme for "I should be folding laundry" this week is purple, so decided to may as well join the challenge there too! Fun, fun, fun!

Hello There! Long time no see! It has been a long, busy week! Lots of rain, lots of damage, but also finally lots of sunshine and lots of growth in the fields, lots of green all around, lots of colour, lots of beauty! I haven't post any pictures for a while so today one will have to go long ways! I love how this picture turned out, love how the fields look these days, so green, so healthy and so ready to go into the next step, blooming and producing grain, just can't get enough of this time of the year! LOVE IT!

Another Sunday and another day to rejoice on the beauty of God's creation and this verse to remind us of our inner beauty, the beauty of our spirit, not of physical beauty!

PS - This blooms are from a tree we have in our front yard, back in April I future this tree in THIS post, and a few of you were trying to help me to figure it out what kind of tree it was. Someone asked if the tree bloomed in Spring and I couldn't remember. So YES! as you can see it does! Any idea now as what kind of tree this is?

Hello There! This week I would like to share what I think is the perfect Yellow Orange pic! This flower you see here, is our Provicial Flower Emblem. It's name is: WESTERN RED LILY (Lily Philadelphicum)

'The Western Red Lily also known as the Prairie Lily, was adopted as the floral emblem of Saskatchewan in 1941. The Plains Indians and early settlers used the lily for medicinal and food purposes. Tea brewed from the lily treated stomach disorders, coughs, and fevers. Poultices were applied for swellings, bruises, spider bites, and wounds. Steamed lily was considered a potato substitute. A picture of the lily was placed on the Saskatchewan flag to remind people of wildflowers."

"Historically the flower was abundant in Saskatchewan. With its bright orange petals it was easy to spot in moist meadows and semi wooded areas. Today, mostly due to loss of native habitat, this lily is becoming increasingly difficult to find in the wild."

Isn't it stunning flower? I love it! It is too bad it is almost extinct now!

As I was looking for a good verse to match this pretty flowers, I chose this one, because I noticed how happy Spring and Summer makes me! The grass, the trees, the flowers, the birds, they all really cheer me up! The Goodness of the Lord, the wonder of creation are the best medicine for the after winter depression, that is for sure!

Well, today I was finally able to kick start my photo sessions for the year with this sweetest little boy! He was sooo . . . good and content. I will be posting more tomorrow, but for tonight I just wanted to post this one! The cute hat he is wearing in case you are wondering was made by yours truly, yes, me! I saw this hat advertise somewhere on the net at an outrageous price which I just couldn't afford to pay, so I decided to get back into knitting and figure out how to make one myself and here it is! Project 64 - Week 18 - Tumbleweed

Well, I am back! I really like this week's colour and actually I could see it in quite a few different places, I guess mainly because is sort of a fall colour, and since not much around here is green yet, this colour is still quite predominant in our surroundings! Any way, as I was driving around trying to decide what to shot for this challenge, we run into a herd of Antelope and I thought they had the perfect colour for this, what do you think? Actually pretty much about this picture with them standing on the stable of a canola field, had that Tumbleweed colour! And in case you are curious as to why the picture look like a painting, I used PS CS5 to edit the photo using the Pixel Bender plug-in. Hope you like it!

What a wonderful Spring Day! Finally the days are really getting so much warmer and nicer! One of the things we enjoyed the most about Spring is the return of wildlife! Every morning we have hundreds and hundreds of Snow and Canada Geese flying right over our farm as the move from the river into the fields to eat lentils, wheat and oats left from the fall harvest! Is quite a site to see! We are also enjoying the return of the ducks and the swans, those we only seem to be able to see in the Spring and they will soon disappear too! =( so I was happy to be able to capture them this morning as we were driving to church. When I looked at them, this is the verse that intermediately come to mind. We have had a couple of rough weeks with a number of deaths in our congregations and in our community so I am really looking forward to the Lord lettings us rest in some nice, quiet waters soon!

This week it was so evident to me how God wanted to show me one more time, that he is the one that is in control! Not me, but him! That no matter how badly I want Spring to come and stay, it is not quite time yet! It was actually funny that in the middle of it all, I could find happiness and contentment as I watched the huge snow flakes fall and everything looked so bright and clean again, and so it is with our lives, only he knows when the right time is for the things we wish for and how sometimes even good things come out of bad situations. So we need to learn to wait and always hope for the best. Have a Blessed Sunday you all!

Project 64 - Week 14 - Burnt Sienna

Well, this week we had quite a challenge! Not only with the colour itself, but on top if all, Brooke challenge us to try and put this weeks colour find in a diptych or triptych! First of all I had no idea what that meant! but she explained ("A diptych is simply a pair of photos that go together, rather it be the same object taken at different angles or two photos that just complement each other") and gave us a sample so I hope I got it right! I was going crazy looking for this colour everywhere in the house, with not much luck. Then in the middle of the week I had to go out somewhere and as I walked outside of the garage there it was! Right in front of me what I think is the perfect shade of burnt sienna! I so love this tree and have taken MANY pictures by it, the bark colour really is stunning. Don't asked me the name of this tree though I don't got a clue! Mom planted it some 30+ years ago when they started this yard and she is not around anymore for me to ask her! :( Any way, what do you think? Pretty close?

Like Lisa, I am starting to wonder when Spring will finally arrived! It has been such a long wait and it just keeping getting worse everyday! I am so lonesome for Spring that this week I just went out and got myself a bunch of tulips to try and keep my hopes up that Spring will really eventually arrive! They are a beautiful shade of pink so wasn't sure how they would look in black and white. I think they look pretty good, eh? what do you think? I really, REALLY love tulips and I am so glad they seem to be one of the very few flowers my hubby isn't allergic too! LOL! For the editing I used a few actions, textures and my latest favorite, pixel bender! - ENJOY!

Project 64: Week 12 - Tickle Me Pink

Hey there! My second entry for this challenge, getting the hang of it and loving it! Goodness for the The Saskatoon Civic Conservatory at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon with all it's beautiful flowers all year round! It was here where I found this beautiful pink I believe snap dragons? Also got my 64 crayola box and now I am ready to keep going! Hope you like it! This week I also discover the joy of PS Pixel Bender and that's what I use for the editing of this shot.

Shoot and Edit : Week 11 - Flowers Edit

I keep finding all this cool photo challenges that I can't resist to participate in! I recently found out about this Shoot and Edit challenge. You are suppose to post your S.O.O.C (straight out of the camera) shoot on Monday and then on Thursday Ashley from Ramblings and Photos, post an editing tutorial and you are suppose to follow it and edit your own pictures. Well, when I saw Ashley's edit I couldn't wait to download and install the pixel bender plug-in for CS5 and try it out, it was love at first sight! Much to my dismay though I spent hours and hours trying to get the stupid plug-in to work with no results at all! I even emailed Ashley to ask her if she could help me! She was so gracious and so kind to take time to try and help me but unfortunately she couldn't solve my problem either!. So I finally gave up and though I'll just leave it! I did all I could and who knows one of these days it may actually work! Soon after that, I received an email with a pictures in it. I use Photoshop to view the pictures so I opened it in Photoshop, viewed them and then when I closed it, Photoshop all of the sudden opened again on its own and lo and behold, there it was! Finally Pixel Bender Filter was working! I could have cried! I am so over the moon, I love, love this amazing plugin. I visited the Flicker group that Ashely sugested and it is simply amazing the things others have done using this plugin! So THANK YOU SO . . . MUCH Ashley for sharing this with us, for your tutorial and for all the patience you had with me today! THANK YOU!!!

Then my edit using a few actions like Ashley's Nice and Easy, P.W. Lovely and Ethereal, working on levels and curves and finally applying the pixel bender plug-in.

I haven't been here for a while, so it is good to be back! As I learned something new this morning, I couldn't wait to use it in a picture and thought this was the perfect opportunity to do this! I learned about "Adding Graduated Skies". This winter our church junior youth group was invited to a horse sled ride at one of our members farm. The kids had lots of fun and thankfully it wasn't too cold, but it sure it was a pretty cloudy and grey kind of day! Not exactly "picture perfect" in you know what I mean! But thanks to Photoshop as you can see, I managed to transformed and dreary, grey day, into a pretty nice almost sunny day! So much pleasing to the eye, don't you think?

Project 64 - SCARLET

Hello Project 64 friends! Let me say first of all, that is my very first time participating in this challenge! I found about it last week and was really looking forward to be able to participate! I have no idea whether I am getting this right or wrong, not sure whether the picture has to show a solid colour or like in my case hues of it? My world right now is pretty color-less, pretty black and white with a bit of green from our ever greens! so for challenges like these I had to dig into my archives, hope that all right? Like I said, I am newby here so I am not sure about the rules.

I wasn't sure what the colour "Scarlet" was suppose to look like, so I did a bit of searching and got a few samples from the internet, got their "Hex Code" and this is the result:

Based on this little chart, I searched my photo archives and this is the closet I could found! Some flowers from the garden and a card that I made last fall, as far as which one to submit, I am not sure! Would mind helping me decide? Or do you think neither of them really qualify? I would REALLY appreciate your imput!

Well, it seems like Katie and I and have the same idea in our minds this week, oh well, no big deal. I decided to give up Facebook for lent, so I wanted to leave something else than my face for my profile pictures and to remind people of the reason I was doing this, so that's how this picture come to be. Actually I had post this picture a while back already, but give it a new twist applying some neat action and a lovely Florabella texture plus of course this wonderful verse. I love this bleeding hearts and think they are the prefect remainder of the enormous sacrifice Jesus did for us in the cross! To him be the honour and the glory, for ever and ever, Amen.

Scripture and Snapshot - Week 24

I am a bit late, but I just had to post this picture this week! Yesterday we have the privilege to go and help out with the service to one of the oldest rural churches still standing in this area! The building was originally build in 1910 to serve a different congregation (Tiefengrund Mennonite Church) and then moved to the present location in 1957 to replace the older and first building for this congregation! It is AMAZING the way they have kept up the building! It is 101 years old and you can't hardly tell, except of course when you look around and there is so much wood and beautiful windows like this one! I was mesmerized by it and intermediately thought this would make a great Scripture and Snapshot! We had a wonderful service with our junior youth group helping out and also a group of students from the bible college my husbands teaches in. A great Sunday, a great worshipful experience and hey! an awesome pot-luck afterwards too! It doesn't get any better than that!

Black and White Wednesday!

Hello Everyone! Long time no see! Well I am back, may as well try and have some fun while we try to keep warm in this terribly cold Canadian winter! It has been so terribly cold these past few days it just makes one wish eagerly for Spring time! We have so . . . much snow, you wouldn't believe it! We are just about buried in it! LOL!!! I hadn't been at "The Coffee Shop" for a while, so I decided to pay her a visit last night and ended up spending a LONG time in her site! Man, she has so many wonderful things there! Amazing! but best of all, EVERYTHING IS FREE! Really, pretty hard to believe in this and age, that you can actually find some FREE and wonderful staff on the web! So I went nuts downloading all kinds of goodies, mainly PS actions, frames and textures and went to town with them this morning! So . . . much fun! I have had this picture sitting in my pictures folder for a few weeks already waiting to get done something done with it, so I though some black and White fun would work with it, and I think it really does, don't you think? Don't ask me how they managed to put those trucks in there but I thought that was pretty neat, eh? Any way, have a great, happy Wednesday and hopefully you will enjoy this shot!

I woke up this morning or I should say this freezing morning (-32°C) with this image and this verse in my head! I just couldn't shake off, so I decide to just get up and use it for "Scripture and Snaphot" so here it is! It must be my subconscious wishing for some nice, warm, weather! Actually this is also one of those bitter-sweet images for us. It is from our canola field from last summer. The field yield a wonderful and beautiful crop, but unfortunately at the end we just about lost it all because it over heated and burned in the bins. It was a tough time for us and a lesson that will never been forgotten. I love this picture so much, I just had it enlarge, framed and is now it my photo gallery in our living room. Through it all though we are VERY thankful for God's faithfulness that sustains us through good and bad times!

I Heart Faces - Best Face Photo for 2010

I haven't participated on I ♥ Faces for a while but thought this week I JUST HAD TO! Why? Because I can not let the world not see this beautiful face of this beautiful little girl! When I read that the challenge for this week was "Your BEST face picture of 2010" that was a no brainer! This is it! I love, love, LOVE this picture! And this is pretty well, straight out of the camera, maybe a little boost on the colours but not much. Like I said in another post, that day I was trying the new 85mm Nikon lens (Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4G) what an amazing, amazing lens! Just LOVE IT! The colours are so vibrant and the bokeh spectacular! One thing that brings me a lot of joy is watching and listening to my daughter play the piano! It has been one of those dreams that your kids make true for you! Something I wanted to do when I was growing up but didn't have the chance to do, but now my daughter can do for me and that makes me very, VERY happy! For me, that is a BIG blessing and I am thankful to God for that!

This fall I had the privileged of taking School Pictures of the kids at my dear friend's Spanish Immersion School in Saskatoon. It was fall back then and the weather was still nice enough to take pictures outside which was great! That day I was also trying the new 85mm Nikon lens (Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4G) what an amazing, amazing lens! Just LOVE IT! The colours are so vibrant and the bokeh spectacular! I just rented it for the day, but it is definitely in my wish-list now! It was during that photo shoot I took this photo of this gorgeous little girl! My favourite of them all! Isn't she stunning?

Black and White Wednesday!

Wow! I can't believe how long it's been since my last post! Life had been so . . . busy there is just not enough time in a day for everything! Today somehow, I am feeling quite relaxed and decided it was time to participate on "Black and White Wednesday" so here I am, sharing with all of you one of my old time winter photo favourites! It is the one I like to look at when winters days get so dreary, grey and doom. It remains me that actually, there can be beauty in winter days! Believe or not! Even in -30 to -40°C when that sun shines so brightly, the sky is SO . . . blue and the frost from the night before just hangs in bare winter trees, there is just no words to describe how beautiful that is, hopefully as the say goes . . . "A picture is worth a thousand words!" Is it???

Scripture and a Snapshot! - Week 4

Harvest is done, at least for us and for most our neighbours around here! This is a very typical image around here, once the wheat, barley or oats have been harvested, the straw is made into this neat, huge round bales! In our farm we are still old fashion and our bales are small and square and somehow not as pretty as this ones! This was an amazing year! Plenty of rain, a bit too much at times, but it also gave us a wonderful and an abundant harvest! Thanks and Praise be to God for his Love, Faithfulness and Mercy and many, MANY daily Blessings!

The K Family - Lovely Autumn Time!

Fall is almost over up here in the North of Saskatchewan, but I am so glad I was able to capture quite a few families with this lovely colours yet! I had a great time capturing this family, so much LOVE all around, between the couple and towards the girls! They also introduced me to an amazing place in the city, absolutely perfect for photos! I can see myself using this place over and over again, it is simply fabulous! So thank you K family, this was awesome!

I am also very excited today, as I have learned how to make my own blog storyboards! I love it every time I learn something new! Now I have my own templates to use over and over again! So much fun! If you would be interested in purchasing this Photoshop Templates from me, just let me know!

It always seems to be hard to find a picture that would translate good into black and white! Doesn't that happens to you? So as I was looking at some of the pictures I took this week and thought this one would, and I think it really does look good in black and white, though of course the colour one is pretty nice too! Well, while reading some of my favourite blogs yesterday, I found someone had started what I think is a pretty neat and pretty original kind of challenge . . . "Scripture and a Snapshot". I knew I wanted to participate but wasn't sure which picture to use! So today, here I am by the kitchen sink, preparing lunch when I look outside and see this big birds in our weather vain on top of the barn! Could figure out what they were, so grab the binoculars and Bingo! Flickers! So I quickly went I grab my camera, put on my zoom lens and run outside just in time to take the picture before they fly away! Then I knew it! This is it, this is the one for the new challenge! So here it is! What do you think?

Another Wednesday and here we are with before and after! Haven't been here for a while so it is good to be back! Wanted to show what I did with this picture from my last photo shoot. I used Photoshop CS5 and what I basically did was first of all remove the jacket from the grass, then crop and bring the family closer, warm up the photo so the colours of the bales would be more natural, more like the colour they really are. Then applied a series of PS Action from MCP and also from PW, and viola!

Finally a few pictures from my last session when I twisted my foot and torn a ligament on my right foot! It has been over a month already and I am still limping! It has been a long and pretty painful healing process and I only hope it ends soon! I long for fast, normal walking and getting back to shoot some more pictures!

This past Sunday my family and I went for a drive to visit a place we have heard of quite a few times but have never seen yet! The place isn't even that far from our place, maybe not even two hours drive. The place we went to see is call "The Crooked Bush". It is actually quite a small place but a very interesting one! There in the middle of nowhere, in someones land, there is this bush, full of like it name says it, crooked trees! All of them, growing in all sorts of forms and twists! Some have only grow vertically and some horizontally. Some are pretty small and some are pretty big. They have built a very nice boardwalk so that makes it really nice to get in there and being able to see them all! I did a bit of "Googling" trying to find out why this bush is like that, specially when right across the road from this bush, the next bush is completely perfect! With perfect straight poplar trees! It seems it is all due to some kind of genetic mutation, one tree that mutated and started it all! They figured it has nothing to do with this specific location, because when one of these seedlings was taken and planted somewhere else, it grew exactly like that! Crooked! Any way, it all very mysterious and VERY interesting to see! So if you ever around this corner of the world you should go and take a look for yourselve! The place is close to Hafford, Saskatchewan, 16 km. North of Hwy 40, near Speers and then 2.5 km. East.

Humm . . . good to be back in the game! I was pretty busy with other staff last week and didn't have time for this challenge! I missed it! So this morning I went out with my camera (Nikon D700) and my new Nikon 60mm Macro Lens and took this picture of my sunflowers! I love sunflowers and the birds love them even more! ;) Today I just used Florabella's B/W Rich Vintage for the conversion, I love her Black and White Actions! Photo Challenge: YOUR BEST SHOT

Well, I am trying something new this week! I run into this site "In A Yellow House" and decided to participate in their photo challenge! This week the theme is, "Your Best Shot" we were supposed to look through all our pictures and pick a favourite and trust me when you have thousand of pictures to look at is not an easy thing to do! But . . . for some reason this pictures has been one of my favourites ever since I took it! I was so lucky to picture turn out the way it did! Deer are often so hard to photograph b/c they tend to always run away as soon as they see you, but this one just stood there and looked at me, as saying, go ahead, take a shot! Hope you like as much as I do!

I am a bit early this week, but since I missed last week altogether I thought may as well post this now while I have the time!

This weekend hubby, daughter, and I spent a little bit of the time on the road! Actually the trip was mostly because of my husband work, but in any case, it gave us a good excuse to get out and do something different, meet some new people and just take a little break! We went to St. Walburg, SK for the rededication of Fort Pitt. Fort Pitt was an early Hudson's Bay Company fur trading post that was strategically located on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River along the Carlton Trail halfway between Fort Carlton and Fort Edmonton. During the period of the fur trade, it was an important trading and commerce centre.

At the ceremony there were quite a few people from a nearby Hutterite Colony, who also took part on the celebration. I couldn't help but to snaps a few pictures of the girls, they just look so cute on their Hutterite outfits! I asked if they would mind but they didn't and actually seem to quite enjoy it. This one here is one my favorites, I think her expresion is just priceless!

Tonight I also found the most amazing PS tutorial at the Shadow House Creations, "Image Pop and Blur/Overlay Effects" you got to check it out! It is super easy, fast and I love the way it bring out the colors and give the picture a bit of dreamy look as you can see in the "After" picture! So go ahed, check it out and give it a try!

Last week I had the joy and the privileged to take the grad pictures of the two girls from our church that graduated from grade 12 this year! This was a special shoot for me because I have seen these girls grow from the past 7 years, turning into such a special, smart, caring, women. This really was not only special but fun! so . . . much fun! We did the pictures at our church's camp, Shekinah Retreat Centre , a really great place for photos, that's for sure! This particualar photo was one of my favorites! For their grad present I made a 12x12 Collage using their favorite pictures from the shoot and frame it. I loved the way it turn out! I'll live the other's girl for next week! So stay tuned . . .

Macro Monday!

Ok, this is my very first time here! I have been quite curious about Macro Photography so I decided to get a new lens, give a try and see how it goes! So far I am quite impress with the lens (Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8 f2.8 G ED) it really is amazing how close you can get to the subject! I had debate it between this lens and the Nikon 105mm f2.8 G f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR. Talking to the guys at the photo store they explain that the only difference between these two lenses is how far you stand from the subject, the 105mm allows you to stand further but at the end the results will be exactly the same 1:1. Since the difference in prize is so great, I decided to rather go with the 60mm one. So here is my first try, take a look, tell me what you think, and if you have any of these lenses, I would also love to hear your opinion and experiences with them!

Black and White Wednesday! - Grad Time

This past week my daughter graduated from Junior High! Most places don't actually have grad ceremonies for such a grad, but here in our little town we do! Our school only goes to grade 8 and then for high school our kids get bus to a different town, so it is quite a transition for them! The kids don't mind so it really is kind of fun and also A LOT of work for as parents! I was in charge of the official class photos and also the slide presentation for the grad, futuring all of the kids in the class from when they are babies until grad time! It so much fun, but also it was a lot of work for me, but I did enjoyed my job and everyone else seemed to have enjoyed the presentation too, so that makes it all worthed!

I was so proud of my baby girl that day! All of the sudden she looked so grown up! It was hard to believe this was my baby girl, so I have to include a little collage of our photo shoot that day and my favorite one in Black and White, after all this is Black and White Wednesday, right?

I ♥ Faces - Fix It Friday!

I Love Fix It Friday, and being able to "play" with someone elses pictures! LOL!! Fix It Friday over at I Heart Faces gives me the perfect excuse and opportunity to do that!

I used Photoshop CS5 for the editing! I like bright and colourful photos so that's what I went for! Warm it up a bit first to get rid of the bluish tint. Used MCP Detail Actions to brighten up the colours and also work on the skin, got to love MCP Actions, that's for sure!

One of my favourite flowers are "Bleeding Hearts" I just think they are so . . . pretty! I have a plant in front of our house that actually holds more than just pretty flowers but mainly pretty memories of Mom (my husband's Mom) who passed away 4 years ago! This was also one of her favourite of all the perennials she had planted around the house, so I can not help it but to think about her everytime I look at those beautiful bleeding hearts!

This week I also decided to include the original picture, SOOC (straight out of the camera) to really be able to appreciate the black and white transformation! To see more "Black and White" transformations, don't forget to visit "The Long Road To China"

Ok, for before and after this week I was busy with this picture trying to make chances to it as much as I could without using any actions! Not easy when you are so use to using them! At the end I only used one action just for the finishing touch, Sun and Lens-flair from MCP, that's it! I used Photoshop CS5, masked my background, used "Gussian Blur" to blur it out even more, and then I just kept adding adjusting layers to alter contrast, brightness, vibrance, saturation, light, etc . . . this was actually fun! Hope you like it!

It is nice to be back! I had problems with my computer last week and wasn't able to participate in this challenge and to tell you the truth, I missed it! So I am happy to be back up and running! I took a little drive this morning and found this old fallen barn, kind of sad actually to see such a huge structure almost flat in the ground! Basically the whole bottom part felt in and all is left is the hay loaf! :( Any way . . . if nothing else I thought it made for a nice picture! What do you think?

For this Black and White Wednesday I picked a photo from my last photo shoot, which was quite something! Two families at the same time, each couple had 4 children, so 8 kids in total between the ages of 6 months and 6 years old! Plus we met at the town's park for the pictures, so you can imagine how that went! I did managed to get a few good shoots and this one is one my favourites, hope you like it too!

Another Wednesday again! Unreal! For this week I am using a picture from one of my last photo shoots, such a cutie, isn't she? I edited this photo with CS5. Basically worked with the adjustment tools to bring up more clarity and colour, cropped and turn it around a bit. Also used a few MCP Actions.

Well, it has certainly been a while since I last participated in the "I Heart Faces" photo challenge! It is amazing how much that challenge has grown and how many people participate! This week challenge is "Faces and Flowers" and I couldn't stop thinking about this picture of Hannah I took back in 2006 with my old Canon PowerShot S2 IS, such a great camera! Any way . . . I thought this was the perfect picture for this challenge, so here it is! Hope you like it!

Before and After - May 13, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privileged and the honour to photograph this cute twin baby girls! You may remember the pictures of their pregnant Mom? Rigth the week after the girls were born a few weeks premature, one of them had to be in the hospital for a whole week, but after that she was OK and ready to go home. By now they are both doing really well. On these pictures they were only two weeks old and this basically my first real new born photo shoot! Let's just say it was a great learning experience!!

Editing was done with Photoshop CS5. I used my own "baby action" and also used MCP Magic Skin and PW Actions as well.

Mom n' Me Monday

As many other mothers out there who are always behind the camera, I am VERY seldom in front of it! Except on Mother's Day! I have made it a tradition that on Mother's Day I MUST have a picture taken with my kiddos! As they get older and older, taking this pictures becomes more and more difficult! Teen agers! Go figure! My daughter is still OK with it, but my son . . . well, that is a whole different story, but at least on Mother's Day he is actually quite willing! I tell him that this is the ONLY present I want from him, to poss nicely for my picture, that's all! He said as long as I didn't tag him on Facebook, he was OK with it! LOL!!!

My hubby got me a super-present for Mother's Day, a Wireless Shutter Release for my Nikon D700 so of course I had to use it yesterday to take our picture! I LOVE it! It works great! So here it is what I come up with! I worked on this last night not really knowing where, how or when I was going to use it, so today when I saw the link to this challenge of course I thought, this is it! It is perfect, so here it is! Before and After - April 29, 2010

I am so . . . . excited!! As you may have noticed already, my edit of the cute ponies was voted the most voted!! Thank so much for voting for me! I have never won anything before so this means the world to me! To show my appreciation, I will be making this picture available for download here, very soon, in full resolution, in case you want to use it to make a card or a print to hang or your wall or how ever you see fit! All I ask is that you don't claim it as your own or re-distribute it through your site or any other outlet. It is still my picture and my edit, therefore I still hold the copyrights! Thanks!

Now of course, this makes things a little bit worrisome for me! Now the pressure is on to come with something just as good or even better, I am not sure this week entry is going to fulfil your expectations but here it is! I edited this picture using Photoshop CS4 and a really neat and easy tutorial that Tracy so kindly shared with me, hope she will be OK with me sharing it here as well. This same look can also be achieved using MCP All in the details Photoshop Actions, Color Extreme Action, but I like the result with this tutorial better, it's somehow brighter and best of all it is FREE! LOL!!!

PHOTOSHOP CS4 - COLOR POP TUTORIAL

1. Copy your background layer
2. Convert mode to Lab Color Mode (Go to Image/ Mode / Lab Color
3. Add a Curves layer; 75% Opacity; Multiply mode – adjust curves layer to taste
(make color stand out to your liking; don’t worry about faces being too bright or
weird as you can mask that out later)
4. Add another Curves layer; 25% Opacity; Screen mode. Leave curve at default
(no need to adjust). This will just brighten your image.
5. Flatten your layers
6. Convert back to RGB mode
7. Paste the background layer you copied in step one on top
8. Change the name on the vivid layer to something other than “Background” and
70% Opacity
9. Rename the pasted layer to “Background”
10. Move the vivid layer to the top
11. Add a Channel Mixer Layer with these settings;
a. RED…Red 140; Green -20; Blue -20
b. GREEN…Red -20; Green 140; Blue-20
c. BLUE…Red-20; Green-20; Blue140
12. Rename this layer if you want and change to 50%Opacity
13. Make a Group and add a layer mask so you can paint on color
14. Use a soft white brush to paint on vivid color where you want it.
In the end you should have a group with a mask on it ; under group the Channel Mixer
layer; then the Vivid Color layer. The last layer or bottom layer (not part of the group)
is the background.

U Capture - Spring!

I LOVE Spring! Year after year I wait and wait for winter to be over, the snow melted and finally see everything to come ALIVE again! This year I have most happy because Spring come quite early, up to this last week we had some awesome and beautiful weather, what a blessing! Even the leafs are out already, earliest that I have ever seen since I moved to Canada! Makes my heart so . . . happy!

So what is Spring to me? Spring is the return of my beloved birds, the time to plan a garden and the joy of leaves and flowers and new life all around us!

This week I also tried something new for presenting my pictures! Something I had wanted to do for a while, a sort of Digital Scapbooking page! I don't really know anything about scrapbooking but it was fun learning and trying new things! Hope you like it!

Can't believe is Wednesday again! Where did last week go?? Continuing with the theme of Barns if you remember from last week, here is another pretty neat barn we saw last week on our drive out of town, never had seen one like this before, pretty neat eh?
